Develop the skill of hedge-laying on this course organised by the Chilterns Conservation Board.
Please note - we are now offering a second day's training on Sunday (29th) for those who would like more practise. The 2 day course will also be suitable for beginners.
The traditional art of hedge-laying was once common across the English countryside and many Chilterns hedges still show evidence of previous laying. Originally hedges were laid to create an impenetrable barrier to keep stock in fields and the skill of laying a hedge was once common practice. However, with modern fencing and mechanical hedge trimming, this traditional form of hedge management is now a much rarer skill.
There are many styles of hedge-laying throughout the UK. On this course you will learn the South of England style. For further information on the different hedgerow styles visit www.hedgelaying.org.uk
Primarily suited for those who have already been on a hedge laying course or who have some experience of hedge laying, this is a day for getting stuck into a hedge with Nigel coaching as you go!
