Ms Elizabeth Wilson

Elizabeth WilsonAppointed by: Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

Elizabeth is Reader in Environmental Planning at Oxford Brookes University and a qualified town planner (MRTPI), with prior local government experience in the Thames Valley. Her research, teaching and publications cover planning, environmental assessment, biodiversity and climate change. She is interested in landscape-scale planning, sustainable transport, and the relationship of the Chilterns with its local communities and neighbouring areas.

She is a panel member of BRE Global, and a member of RSPB, the National Trust and the Town and Country Planning Association.

Elizabeth lives close to the River Thames in Oxford, and has long enjoyed coming out to the southern Chilterns, especially around Ewelme, and the Goring Gap: she particularly values the views of the Chiltern Hills as they rise up from the Vale of Oxford. As a Board Member she is looking forward to getting to know the rest of the Chilterns well, especially through walking and cycling, and from 2016 making use of the Oxford- Marylebone rail route through the Chilterns.  She will hope to promote increased access to and public engagement with the Chilterns. She is keen to help the Chilterns AONB be a good example of a managed landscape in the face of climate change and other pressures.  Another priority is to help AONBs and National Parks work effectively together to raise the profile of the UK’s protected landscapes.
