Nominated by: Buckinghamshire Parish Councils
Clive has been a Parish Councillor for 3 years and is Chairman of the Commons and Woodlands Working Group, which looks after Chesham Bois Common and two other woods owned by the Parish Council.
He has been instrumental in formulating a Management Plan for these areas in conjunction with John Morris of the Chilterns Woodland Project- this plan aims to improve the public amenity of the areas and their biodiversity by improving their health and resilience with a ten-year plan of active management. The process of approval through the Forestry Commission and District Council is proving excellent lessons on policies for the countryside and local decision-making. He has also been working with the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust to manage a chalk grassland area owned by the Council in order to enhance its value as a wildflower meadow and has engaged with the Chiltern Society on a number of working days on our Common.
His love of landscape dates back to an early age and mountain walks in Wales with his father, a geologist, and was enhanced by a degree in Geography at Cambridge. A working life in business, retail buying at a senior level, has now been replaced by early retirement, hence his involvement with the Parish Council and a number of other volunteer roles- one of these is as a Countryside Volunteer for the National Trust on the Bradenham Estate in the Chilterns, where a very hands-on approach to forestry and landscape management is needed. As a hard-working and involved member of the Council, he has already contributed considerably to enhancing the Chesham Bois area and he can do the same for the Chilterns as a whole in this role.
