Bobbin Lace Taster Day by Woodlanders' Lives

Formerly a thriving local cottage industry and now an engaging hobby. Come along to celebrate the fascinating craft of lacemaking with us at our Bobbin Lace Taster Day!

  • Meet local lacemakers, watch bobbin lace being made
  • Try your hand at lacemaking on a pillow with guidance from an experienced lacemaker
  • Learn about the history and heritage of Bucks bobbin lace.

You will also be able to enjoy:

  • Lace displays
  • Amersham Museum mobile lace exhibition
  • Lacemaking supplies to buy (cash only please)
  • Talk on the history of lace and lacemaking (1.30pm)
  • Folk musician Jackie Oates performs her songs about the lives of lacemakers (1-1.30pm and 2 –2.30pm)
  • Free refreshments

You can book to have a go at lacemaking yourself (‘Have a Go’ ticket £10) or alternatively with an 'Observer' ticket (£3) you can simply enjoy the displays, talks and music.

Tickets for children, teenagers and students are free. Children need to be 8 or over to have a go at lacemaking and those under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.

Two lacemaking sessions are available (morning 10am – 1 pm, afternoon 2pm – 4:15pm), with a break for music and the talk on lacemaking from 1 – 2pm for both morning and afternoon ticket holders. If you book a ‘Have a Go’ ticket, upon arrival you will be invited to sign up to a 45 min slot during which you will be able to 'have a go' at lacemaking.
