A review of the Management Plan 2019-24

What's your view?

We want to hear your views on the Chilterns AONB draft Management Plan (2019-24). Do you agree with the objectives, policies and key actions? Do the objectives achieve the vision for the future of the Chilterns?  What more could we do to care for the AONB? What could be done differently? What is it that matters to you? We want to know!

If you only have a few minutes to spare, you don't have to read the entire document, we'd particularly like to hear your thoughts on our Vision and General Policies (pages 14-18 of the draft Plan). Any feedback you're able to provide is welcomed.

To submit your feedback please either complete the online form below or alternatively complete our word template and upload your response using the online form at the bottom of this page.

If you would like to view a printed copy of the draft Plan there are 25 copies on display in reference areas at Libraries around the Chilterns AONB. To find your nearest library please click here

The consultation process will close on 31st December 2018.

Once the consultation has closed all responses will be taken into consideration and used to shape the final Management Plan and supporting documentation. The final Management Plan will be published in Spring 2019. We regret that we are unable to respond to every feedback submission individually, however if you have any questions about the Plan or the process please contact Communications Officer Vicki Pearce at: vpearce@chilternsaonb.org.

Supporting Documents

Our draft Management Plan summarises the Special Qualities and Landscape Characteristics that make the Chilterns so significant. The Landscape Character and Chronology are described fully here:

The Future of the Chilterns

At the beginning of 2018 we asked you to give us your say on how the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is managed now and for future generations. We are extremely grateful to have had over 1500 responses, and have used this valuable information to help develop and plan the future of this special landscape over the next five years and beyond. In addition to this we also held workshops and invited written responses from stakeholders on the first draft. You can view the results from the survey and a summary of the Consultation so far below.

Strategic Environmental Assessment and Habitats Regulations Assessment

As part of the process for producing the Management Plan the Board has prepared a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Screening Report of the Management Plan and a Habitats Regulations Assessment. Downloads of the reports and responses from the statutory bodies are available below.

The Chilterns Conservation Board has a duty to produce a statutory Management Plan for the Chilterns AONB every five years.

Created in consultation with local communities and partner organisations with an interest in the area, the Management Plan sets out the approach to conserving, enhancing, understanding and enjoying the AONB. It includes objectives and policies which provide guidance to everyone with an interest in, or responsibility for, the area.

The purpose of a management plan is to help all those involved in managing the AONB to:

  • conserve its character and special qualities;
  • manage the pressures on these qualities; and
  • where possible, improve the AONB for current and future generations of people who live in and visit the area
