With increased awareness of England as a holiday destination due to the fantastic success of the 2012 Olympic Games and local links with the Paralympic Games, a group of over 100 Chilterns-based tourism businesses are working together to get visitors spending more money in the Chilterns area.
The Chilterns Tourism Network has launched the first tourism website for the Chilterns, www.visitchilterns.co.uk. With over 52 million day visits a year, local tourism suppliers want to encourage a greater number of overnight stays and put the Chilterns firmly in the minds of potential visitors as a short break holiday destination.
There are inspirational images and ideas on what to see and do locally, and also a new free to use 'Sense of Place' marketing toolkit, aimed at local business to help them with their own marketing and communications. There are logos, images and text that can be downloaded from www.visitchilterns.co.uk/sense-of-place.
The project was made possible through a Chilterns Leader Programme grant. Nick Phillips, the Chilterns Programme Manager, says:
"We are keen that businesses are able to communicate everything the Chilterns has to offer, but they don't always have the tools to do so. By supporting them in this way, we can begin to define and grow a Chilterns brand; one that customers - both local and from further away - will begin to recognise and trust."
