Unexploded grenade on Kingwood Common

Wednesday 21 November 2012

Local archaeologist Tim Southern was surveying coppice stools on Kingwood Common recently when he came across an unexploded hand grenade lying under a tree not far from a footpath.

Bomb disposal officers removed the grenade and took it away to be safely blown up.

Mr Southern said he had been told that American troops stationed in the area during WWII used to dispose of live ammunition on the Common.

Anyone who comes across a suspected bomb should contact Thames Valley Police immediately.
