A busy week on Cholesbury Common

Thursday 24 January 2013

At the snow sculpture competition a snow castle vied against Fredrick the Crocodile, a car, horse, a windmill and one of the lions from Trafalgar Square. Despite being far from the sea, marine life inspired the sculptures of a shark, a turtle and, our favourite, this orca!

Later in the week, when the snow still lay thick, trainees from RAF Halton (just down the hill from Cholesbury) helped the Hawridge & Cholesbury Commons Preservation Society to clear hawthorn which was invading the historic dew pond on the common. Fortified with hot drinks, sausage rolls and home-made flapjack, the team managed a phenomenal amount of work on a very chilly day.
