A £60 million Rural Economy Grant (REG) scheme has been created to promote growth in rural businesses in England, particularly farming, forestry, tourism, agri-food and other rural enterprises. Run by Defra as part of the Rural Development Programme for England which is funded by the UK Govt and the EU, the scheme is inviting outline applications from businesses. The deadline for applications is 30th April 2012.
The aim is to significantly boost rural growth, and therefore project applications must demonstrate that as a result of receiving a grant the business will achieve a step change in performance (such as job creation, increased turnover, access to new markets etc).
The application process involves 2 stages: the initial outline application round and a second stage where selected applications will be invited to submit a full bid.
